Town Centre

The Town Centre is the commercial and historic core of Gibraltar, centred around Main Street, which runs the length of the central zone and is the main retail, dining, and social artery of the territory. Living in the Town Centre means everything Gibraltar has to offer in terms of shopping, eating out, and everyday services is within a very short walk. The post office, GHA clinics, government offices, banks, and the majority of the territory's retail and hospitality are all in or immediately adjacent to this area.

The residential stock in the Town Centre is predominantly older buildings, many dating to the colonial era, with some converted apartments above shop fronts and commercial premises. Newer residential development has also appeared on the edges of the central zone. Properties in the heart of the Town Centre tend to be more compact and noisier than those in residential-only areas, but the convenience factor is hard to beat. Those who hate cars and want to walk everywhere in Gibraltar will find the Town Centre an excellent base.

Rents in the Town Centre are competitive, not the cheapest in Gibraltar, but generally more affordable than the marina developments while offering unparalleled central access. The main consideration is noise: Main Street and the surrounding streets are busy during the day with pedestrians and traffic, and some areas have nightlife venues that generate evening noise. Properties on quieter back streets and upper floors tend to offer the best balance of central access and livability.
