Casemates Square is the historical northern entrance to Gibraltar, a large open piazza that has served as the town square for centuries and today functions as the main social hub of the territory. Named after the historic military casemates that once occupied the site, the square is ringed by restaurants, cafes, and bars, and hosts markets, concerts, and community events throughout the year. It is the first significant landmark most people encounter when entering Gibraltar from Spain on foot.

The northern end of Main Street extends from Casemates, making the entire town centre walking distance.
