South District
Europa Point, the lighthouse, and the quietest residential living on the Rock.
The South District is the southernmost part of Gibraltar, centred around Europa Point, which marks the tip of the Iberian Peninsula. It is the most distant area from the border and the town centre, which gives it a distinctly quieter, more secluded character than anywhere else on the Rock. Europa Point is dominated by the Ibrahim Al Ibrahim Mosque (one of the largest in Europe outside of the Arab world) and the Trinity Lighthouse, which has guided ships through the Strait for over 200 years.
Residential options in the South District are a mix of traditional Gibraltar townhouses, some older apartment blocks, and a smaller number of newer developments. The area is predominantly low-density by Gibraltar standards, with more green space and a more village-like atmosphere than the northern and western areas. The Nun's Well and Caleta Hotel are local landmarks, and the coastline around Europa Point offers raw, dramatic views of the Strait and the Atlas Mountains of Morocco on clear days.
The South District is not for everyone. The distance from Main Street, shops, and entertainment means you need a car or will spend considerably more time commuting within Gibraltar than residents of other areas. But for those who prioritise peace, space, and spectacular scenery over urban convenience, it offers a quality of life that is genuinely hard to find elsewhere at this latitude.
