Sandy Bay

Sandy Bay is a small residential area on Gibraltar's East Side, immediately north of Catalan Bay and south of Eastern Beach. It sits in a sheltered cove and has a gentler, more suburban feel than the tightly-packed fishing village character of Catalan Bay. The bay itself gives the area its name, and the mix of sand and rocky coastline makes it a popular local beach spot outside of peak tourist months.

The residential properties in Sandy Bay are primarily apartment blocks built over the past few decades, along with some older houses in the lower sections. It is a quieter neighbourhood than the West Side, with a smaller permanent residential population. Many residents are families or couples who have specifically chosen the East Side for the calmer environment and proximity to the beach.

Like Catalan Bay, Sandy Bay relies on the tunnel to connect to the West Side and the main amenities. The drive through the tunnel is straightforward and takes a few minutes, but it does mean that Sandy Bay feels more self-contained than it might otherwise be. Rents are broadly comparable to Catalan Bay, with properties offering sea or bay views commanding the upper end of the market. The area is well-suited to those who want a quieter, more residential base while still being within easy reach of the rest of Gibraltar.
